We are teaching piano!

We are having a true adventure here in Guatemala! 65 people ages 5 to 70 showed up so far this week for daily lessons Monday-Thursday for five weeks.

Today we passed out paper 2-octave keyboards with full-size keys to practice on at home.

The one piano at the church needs to be replaced. People say they can't remember any one playing the piano for church meetings in Ciudad Vieja. The hammers of the keys are held together with small plastic zip ties, and are not lined up evenly. It is getting a lot of use from us, and at the end of each day we've been asked to cover it with a thick, leather padded cover intended to help keep it in tune.

We have two full-size keyboards donated by Metroplex Pianos in Dallas, and six short Casios donated by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon). It cost us $240 to fly four $100 Casios with us on American Airlines for our oversized extra bag. Flying United would only cost $40, but would not be a direct flight.

We are committed to come for three years. As long as we have a pleasant place to stay and good health, we hope to return.
